Modernize the myth was a big risk, but also a logical bet. Have been shot and many adaptations of Conan Doyle's work that would be redundant Victorian umpteenth viewing, especially after having known a "new Holmes" by the hand of Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr too recently. The London of Sherlock is ours and we must recognize that the century has been good. Watson no longer writes a book, now includes a blog where the progress is still in real time via the Internet or via sms and although at first glance may seem anecdotal, new technologies become another element to taken into account in the research game.
If anything this series is highlighted by the exceptional work of the actors: Benedict Cumberbatch overboard an inquisitive Holmes, arrogant, manipulative and with so many problems for socializing as you would expect of someone so meticulous and that it is so highly of himself. Martin Freeman is a perfect squire, an accidental roommate that first curious about the detective and their cases and then becomes the one with the patience to endure him. Both get the chemistry and the complicity that has made this pair one of the most memorable in history.
addition to the above Sherlock is brilliant dialogues and mysteries faithful to the original but adapted to our time, respect the classics but that are a drag, which is evident from the first chapter, for my taste the best of the three: Rosa study. A well-spun plot engaging from the first minute, intertwined with the presentation of the characters, major and minor, Lestrade, Mycroft ... even Moriarty. Freeman looks at the content presentation of his character, a veteran wounded in combat in Afghanistan, while Cumberbatch is lush from the beginning (in fact his first appearance is whipping a dead body in the morgue to test a theory.) In short, better than many movies.
a pity that such a quality series like this only have 3 episodes (yes, an hour and a half each) and others have to endure on the air for five years. For the impatient, Moffat dropped what are the key points of the next season: Adler, Baskerville and Reichenbach. See you there.
